While I never actually did get the toy, I did read quite a few of the comic books. Some of them were quite amazing, in fact. He was a toy tie-in that really, really interacted with the Marvel Universe. There were so many cool stories and I was honestly a bit frightened of the Dire Wraiths (especially since I was a rather young chap at the time.)
If you don't remember the toy it was actually from Parker Brothers, way back in 1979. They were doing their best to match up with those crazy Star Wars folks. The advert was kind of epic for a toy in that time:
